If you have always had an interesting story, even the slightest story would capture your imagination. Being diagnosed with Type One Diabetes Mellitus at the age of two, for instance, and being unable to remember a time when you did not have to take extraneous care of yourself, is a story that can leave you engulfed in divining the mysterious order embedded deep in the membranes of the universe. Friends always ask you if you ever feel pain when you check your blood glucose when of course you do, but you reply instead with an explanation of your story, sharing how you came to have your lot but not why because even you don’t know. It opens you up to others’ stories, because people love telling stories once you get them started and because you want a distraction from your own.

Of course, that’s not your story, but mine.
